The Bauchi State Government has promised to pay the 11 months salary arrears owed 2,000 teachers it recruited in April 2014 in installments.

NAN reports that the aggrieved teachers had on Tuesday staged a demonstration at the Government House in Bauchi.

Mohammed Umar, the spokesman of the teachers, told newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi that each teacher would be paid two months salaries in installments until the entire arrears were cleared.

He, however, said that the state government had so far been only able to pay some of the teachers the two months salaries out of the outstanding arrears.

Umar said while the state government complied with its promise to pay part of the salaries in December 2014 and January 2015,
teachers who were not paid during the period were those who protested at the Government House.

Umar explained that government had promised to pay the demonstrating teachers while also rescinding its decision to terminate their appointments.

Government, he said, had attributed the delay in payment of the salaries to problems encountered by officials of the state treasury.
