A group, the Eko Liberation Movement, has decried the attempt by a faceless group to procure a fake medical report to discredit Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming governorship election in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

In a statement by Mr. Gbolahan Agboola, the convener of the Eko Liberation Movement, the group said that Ambode is sound in mind, body and spirit.

“There is no amount of shenanigan by the desperate opposition to discredit Ambode that will change our resolve to support him in  his bid to keep Lagos on the track of greatness and prosperity.

“It has come to our notice that a faceless group is trying to procure a fake medical report like they did to the Presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari that he had prostrate cancer. These agents of destabilisation seem to be ready to do anything in order to stop the forward match of Lagos.

“Their latest antics is to claim that Ambode had suffered a strange mental illness. It seems that there is no morality in this war to ‘capture’ Lagos this time around. We cannot be hoodwinked or deceived by any false claim from any group or individual. Ambode is our man for the job of moving Lagos to the next level,” the group said.

It further stated: “Ambode served meritoriously in the Civil Service of Lagos State for 27 years and retired as the Accountant General of the State.

“He delivered on the job and raised the bar of excellence when he spearheaded the design of the template which has increased the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from a paltry N600 million to almost N20 billion today.

“Ambode possesses the mental, spiritual and physical capacity to take Lagos to the next level.”

The group appealed to well meaning Lagosians and Nigerians to disregard such rumours and ill-advised activities of the opposition to give Ambode the needed support to win the April 11 governoship election in order to take Lagos to the next level.
