National Wheelchair tennis coach, Frank Termena, who just returned from an International Tennis Federation, ITF Experts and Development Officers training in London, has promised to unleash his newly-acquired skills on Nigeria’s tennis.
Termena, the only black African present at the meeting of World renowned coaches and experts, told P.M.NEWS Tennis Special that he was quite excited at the new development by the International tennis body, noting that the latest tricks in the sport would help build the players and their coaches likewise.
The meeting, according to the African Championship winning coach, was for both able and disabled players, and also had some top players in attendance.
“I just returned from London on Saturday after an intensive week-long training by the ITF for all its Experts and Development Officers from all over the world.
“The ITF took care of us in terms of accommodation, flight, feeding and everything required for the training but the most exciting part was when we had the new tricks being exposed to us by the expatriates.
“Lots of new changes, new ideas with which we can build our country’s tennis were introduced and I am raring to go in disseminating the information and the new things I’ve learnt to others, especially my players and then, other coaches.
“It was an eye-opening event and I must say that I was really glad that I attended as about the only representative from Africa since I am the ITF’s only black Development Officer on the continent”.
The coach, whose wheelchair tennis players will not be at this year World Team Cup, stated that he is already making plans to speak with sponsors who will help with tournaments for his players.
He added that, “I am in the stadium already and all those things that I am already intimating my players with will not go in vain.
“I decided to strike while it was hottest because if I have to stay at home for a week before coming down, I might be demoralised.
“I will see the NTF officials too for their programme for the year and will try everything within my power to source for sponsorship so that the players will have tournaments to participate in before the year runs out.
“All things are possible and I believe that God will help us out on this issue of sponsorship.”
