Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have demanded an apology from the Vice Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, over his failure to show up at an event held at the school’s campus.

The absence of Prof. Osinbajo was announced by the moderator of the programme after the students had all gathered at the venue of the programme expecting the APC candidate.

P.M.NEWS Campus Square findings revealed that the students were highly disappointed as they all anticipated a rewarding event and also, were all set to ask Prof. Osinbajo questions as regards the forthcoming presidential election.

He said: “I was so disappointed when the moderator of the programme announced that Prof. Osinbajo was no longer coming. Most of us were waited for hours for him. I personally missed two classes because of the programme. It is pertinent that Prof. Osinbajo write us an apology letter.”

Also commenting on the issue, Taofeek Bello, a 300 level student of International Relations, blamed the absence of the Vice Presidential Candidate on the organisers of the programme.

“Sincerely, I was not happy about Osinbajo’s absence. Although it was understandable, because this is campaign period when politicians are very busy, the organisers of the programme should have confirmed if he would be around before asking us to come around,” he lamented.

Reacting, the moderator of the event claimed that it was unavoidable for Osinbajo to be absent at the program, as he was with him a night before the programme in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to him, “I was with Prof. Osinbajo in Ibadan on the night before the event, but he received an urgent call from General Muhammadu Buhari that there was an urgent meeting in Abuja, which he had to attend.”

Among dignitaries at the event were Dr. Ogunyemi from History Department, Mr. Dare Oduyemi who represented the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. The institution’s Students Union Government, SUG President, Ibikunle Motunrayo, Olubunmi Oluwaseyi and students of OAU were also in attendance.
