GOtv to stage W/African featherweight, national heavyweight title fights

Boxing fans in Nigeria and across Africa will be treated to six top class boxing bouts at the second edition of the GOtv Boxing Night slated for 15 March, 2015 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.

The second edition of the GOtv Boxing Night is the continuation of the efforts to revive boxing in Nigeria.

The competition, sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, is sponsored by GOtv, Custodian Life Assurance Limited, MultiChoice, SuperSport, KSquare Security, Paragonis Multimedia Limited and supported by P.M.NEWS, Complete Sports as well as newsbreak.ng.

In the biggest fights on the night, Waidi “Skoro” Usman, who emerged National Featherweight champion at the maiden edition of the GOtv Boxing Night, will make a bid for the West African title when he takes on Ghana’s Alfred “Ahwor” Qauye in a 12-round fight.

In another tasty, top-drawer contest, Adewale “Tiger” Abbey, National Heavyweight champion, will stake his crown against Tope “Young” Ogunshinusi over 12 rounds.

The line-up of fights at the GOtv Boxing Night, a six fight professional competition that debuted last November, was released at a well attended press conference in Lagos on Monday. The fights will be across different weight divisions.

Also billed to fight at the GOtv Boxing Night are Jamiu Animashaun, who takes on Wahab “Hammer” Adebisi in a 10-round National Light Middleweight elimination bout; and Waliu Arogundade, who fights Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi in a Light Welterweight elimination bout. Both fights are over rounds.

Other fights on the bill are the Light Middleweight challenge between Sunday “Capo” Olalekan and Tombraye “Tornado” Christmas as well the Lightweight challenge between Otto “Joe Boy” Joseph and Kehinde Badmus.

All the fights will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
