Two boxers from Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame made a colourful debut in their professional boxing career in the second edition of GOtv Boxing Night held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Sunday.
Olaide ‘Fijaborn Fijabi, who is a regular face in the Monthly Saturday Boxing Show, took Waliu ‘Oganla Arogundade through their 6-round light welterweight elimination bout to the delight of the fans and the guests. It was no surprise to see Fijabi, the Lagos boxer, who had won three National Sports Festival gold medals, winning the bout with an unanimous decision by the judges.
Another Hall of Fame boxer, Ottoh ‘Joe Boy’ Joseph showed the stuff he was made of when he gave his opponent, Kehinde ‘Ijoba’ Badmus a technical knockout in round two of their 6-round lightweight challenge.
In other fights of the day, Nigeria’s Waheed ‘Skoro’ Usman won the championship bout; the West African Boxing Union, WABU, Featherweight title after he knocked out Alfred ‘Ahwor’ Quaye of Ghana. Adewale ‘Tiger’ Abbey retained his National Heavyweight belt after he defeated Tope ‘Young’ Ogunshinasi.
The fight between Sunday ‘Capo’ Olalekan and Tonbraye ‘Tornado’ Christmas was a draw, while the fight between Jamiu ‘Rotor’ Animashaun and Wahab ‘Hammer’ Adebisi was declared a no contest.
