The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the defection of the Deputy Governor of Rivers state, Engr. Tele Ikuru, was due to the fact that he foresaw the failure of All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah, disclosed this in Port Harcourt while reacting to the defection of Ikuru, along with thousands of his supporters across the state.

Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media, Jerry Needam, said the party is elated over the return of Ikuru to PDP, describing his switch as brave, commendable and a proof of the total extinction of Governor Rotimi Amaechi and the APC in the state.

Obuah observed that the defection of the Deputy Governor to the PDP has finally buried the APC in Rivers state and vindicated the PDP position that the APC will be deserted, leaving Amaechi alone in capsizing bound boat.

Welcoming the deputy governor back, the PDP chairman assured that his full rights and privileges as a party leader will be accorded him without reservation, emphasizing that the party is strong and ready to win the March 28 and April 11 polls.

The PDP chairman also called on the remaining hoodwinked members of the APC, who are still hanging around Governor Amaechi in “a party of rebels, insurgents and anarchists, clothed in robes of pretence and deceit,” according to Ikuru, to take advantage of the liberality and freedom in the Party (PDP) by taking the path of honour by joining the winning side.

He also urged the teeming members and supporters of the PDP to remain steadfast and continue to mobilize the people for the coming elections in the state, as according to him, victory is sure.

Ikuru had described PDP as “enemy at the gate” that should be fought back vehemently.
