Apparently disturbed by the outcome of the 28 March presidential and national assembly elections in the state, traditional rulers and leaders of Edo South Senatorial District‎, on Monday urged the Benins to vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in next Saturday House of Assembly election so that the people of the area will benefit from working with the incoming APC administration at the Federal level.

The Iyase (Prime Minister) of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe, who led top political leaders of APC, elders and several other palace chiefs and PDP leaders from the South, while addressing journalists at the State secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City, said the people of the state would rather prefer to see development and not the kind of bickering witnessed at the early stage of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration, when the PDP had majority in the State House of Assembly.

Igbe who observing that the people of the state suffered under the PDP-led Federal Government, said, “So we will not continue to be in opposition now that we have an APC government in the state and Federal level. We urge our people to vote for APC House of Assembly members this Saturday so that Oshiomhole will receive his full allocation to develop the state more.”

In his speech, former Minister of State for Works, Dr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, noted that the politics of exclusion as a panacea for attaining sustainable development was gaining acceptance globally and Nigeria would not be left out.

“It is our firm belief that our interest as Edo people will be better served within the framework of the APC under the able leadership of Gen. Buhari at the centre with APC at the state level. Edo people must jettison the toga of opposition politics this Saturday and vote APC candidates. We must reject the persuasions of those who seek to use an expected numerical edge in the House of Assembly to instigate instability and chaos in Edo state,” Ogiemwonyi declared.

Some of the PDP leaders from Edo South at the press briefing include Col. Paul Ogbebor (rted) and Mr Isaiah Osifo.
