Concerned over reported cases of hitches experienced during the 28 March Presidential and National Assembly election in Edo State, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Mike Igini, has vowed that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full wrath of the Law.
Igini who disclosed this at a media briefing shortly before holding meeting with Electoral Officers and other management staff of the Commission on Monday in Benin, announced that the Commission has commenced investigation into reported cases of non-availability of result sheets in some areas of the state even though he had sufficiently mobilized sensitive and none-sensitive materials.
He said the meeting would review the March polls and strategies for next Saturday elections.
“I am compiling areas where results sheets were not accompanied with other materials. When I distributed sensitive and none-sensitive materials, I gave everything to all of you. To say that there was no result sheet is a clear manifest violation of our procedures; and there must be consequences today,” Igini fumed, adding that “the will of the people must not be compromised because this office we occupy is under public trust.”
The Resident Electoral Commissioner warned against breach of procedures during the 11 April State Assembly election, stressing that “the outcome of the election must be decided by the people.”
