The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the governorship election in Taraba inconclusive.

Prof. Mohammed Kyari, INEC Returning Officer for the election, made the announcement on Monday in Jalingo.

He said that Mr Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 317,198 votes while Sen. Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 262,386 votes.

He said that the total number of cancelled votes stood at 127,125 which according to him, exceeds the marginal difference of 54,812 votes between the scores of the PDP and APC candidates.

Kyari said that the re-run election between the two leading candidates would be held within 30 days in the areas where votes were cancelled.

NAN reports that the entire results from Donga local government area were cancelled while that of some polling units in Bali, Takum, Wukari Ussa, Yorro and Zing suffered similar fate.

Reacting to the development, the PDP agent, Mr Rebo Usman, expressed displeasure over cancellation of the entire results from Donga LGA without justification.

The APC agent Alhaji Gambo Umar, however, said the action was justified.
