Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Friday inaugurated a 447-metre flyover dual carriage way in Effurun Roundabout, Uvwie Local Government Area.

Uduaghan said the project was awarded to Messrs CCC Construction Company Nigeria Ltd. on Aug. 16, 2013 at the cost of N4.1billion.

He said that Effurun was strategic to the state because it served as a major link to other states in the South-South region.

The governor also said that the flyover was necessary to ease the daily traffic congestion in the area and by implication, boost economic activities.

“Uvwie is very dare to us because it is like the heart beat of Delta, it can’t be ignored because it serves as a link to many parts of the country.

“If we are not doing anything here, it means we are not doing anything in Delta; Uvwie is very strategic in terms of location in the state.

“So, whatever is done here is necessary,” he said.

Uduaghan said the Ugbomro road leading to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), had been awarded to a contractor, adding that work would commence soon on the road.

He said contract for the completion of the electrification project in Jakpa to terminate at the expressway, had also been awarded.

Also, the Delta Commissioner for Works, Mr Funkekeme Solomon, said the project was in line with the urban renewal programme of the state government.

“We are all witnesses to the virtually daily-protracted traffic gridlocks and attendant loss of man hours at the Effurun Roundabout.

“The Effurun roundabout is the main link to the fast growing commercial hub of Warri/Effurun, the Delta Steel Company axis and the Warri Port.

“It also serves as a link to Bayelsa, Rivers and the huge maritime activities spanning the Niger Delta coastline,” he said.

The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Mr Emmanuel Sideso (Abe one), commended the governor for the developmental projects in the area.
