President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has been advised to revive the War Against Indiscipline, WAI, so as to bring sanity back into the country.

The president-elect was also charged to make religious education compulsory from primary level to the tertiary institution to reduce youthful restiveness and other vices being perpetrated by the youths.

Addressing newsmen on the state of the nation today at the Press Centre, Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, the national president of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Alhaji Kamalddin Akintunde commended all Nigerians for their patriotism, determination, relentlessness and sincerity of purpose, demonstrated and culminated into the unprecedented success during the just concluded general elections in the country.

Akintunde urged all the newly elected officers from the President to the members of the States House of Assembly to govern with fear of Allah and to embrace the rule of law in the tasking act of governance.

“Nigeria is again on the threshold of history and development as it attempts to consolidate democratic governance. It is therefore paramount that the incoming government should evolve an amiable, equitable and viable governance that reflects the common identity, yearnings, fears and aspirations of her citizenry particularly against the background of violence, ethnic and religious conflicts, endemic corruption, social and economic challenges bedeviling ‘God’s own Nation’, Nigeria.

“The president-elect should imbibe and sustain policies and programmes that will address the aforementioned vices and engender good governance and sustainable development.

“We are also imploring the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari to run an all inclusive government, ensuring fair and balanced representation in the scheme of things and in the conduct of the affairs of government,” Akintunde said.

The group also advised the incoming government to be proactive in generating employment for the Nigerian youths, hinting that, “such will reduce ethnic and religious violence, armed robbery, insurgency, kidnapping and other acts inimical to the peace and security of the nation”.

Akintunde however canvassed for Nigerian youths to be brought on board by the new government, advocating for 25 per cent affirmative action for the youths in the country.

“The election of a new set of credible leader does not guarantee the actualisation of their quest for youth emancipation, relevance and participation in governance.

“If the women enjoy 35 per cent affirmative action, as internationally gazetted, the youths as hope of any nation, deserve similar respect and regards. I am therefore advocating a 25 per cent affirmative action for the youths of our dear country.

“The incoming leadership should not only uphold this as a gift to the Nigerian youths but to champion the demand beyond the shores of Nigeria,” NACOMYO pleaded.
