Rivers LGA polls: 27 Political parties ready for polls, PDP boycott

Despite the planned boycott of the local government by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has received Expression of Interest forms from 27 political parties for the Local Government Council elections in the state, scheduled to hold on Saturday May 23, 2015 in 22 of the 23 Local Government Councils.

In a statement issued by Miss Ibiso Dokubo, Commissioner Media and Public Affairs, RSIEC she said 27 of the 28 registered political parties in the country have collected and submitted Expression of Interest forms to the commission.

The statement enjoined political parties to submit their forms on time to RSIEC headquarters between Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

The Commission stated that it is committed to a free, fair, transparent and credible local government council elections and urged all the parties to abide by the rules.

It also assured of the commitment of security agencies and other stakeholders in ensuring a peaceful election in the state.
