All intending pilgrims for the 2015 Hajj operations to Saudi Arabia from Bauchi State would undergo screening for the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), meningitis and Lassa fever.
Dr. Zailani Isa, the Chief Medical Director, Bauchi State Specialist Hospital, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi.
Isa said that the screening was to ascertain the health statuses of the intending pilgrims before they embarked on the pilgrimage.
The CMD recalled that Nigeria had been declared as an-EVD-free country by the World Health Organization (WHO).
He, however, said that the hospital’s board was taking precautionary measures to protect the state’s intending pilgrims from contracting the diseases.
Isa said that the state government was also making provisions that would ensure healthcare services were available to the pilgrims while in the Holy land.
He warned the pilgrims against carrying with medicines not approved by the relevant government agencies to Saudi Arabia.
The chief medical officer assured them that the state government would acquire enough drugs for their need while in Saudi Arabia.
