Top Nigerian entertainers, DJ Jimmy Jatt and Weird MC will be leading other top celebrities at a special tribute organised in honour of late On-air personality with Lagos-based Classic 97.3 FM, Sylvester Ojigbede popularly known as Sly.
The memorial gig is billed to hold Saturday, 6 June, at the Arena Bar & Lounge on Bishop Aboyade Close, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to a statement from NMO Management & PR Ltd, organisers of the event, music veterans will pay homage to Sly during the night already tagged “A Tribute to ‘Old School’ Hip Hop Classics”, the music genre Sly championed while alive.
There will be live performances by popular figures such as Weird MC, Ruggedman and Elajoe, while Old School Hip Hop DJ sets will have Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt leading other notables such as DJ Humility, DJ Caise and Snoop Da Damaja.
Sly’s family will be present to celebrate this special Tribute Edition, while proceeds from the gig will go to the deceased’s young family.
Sly died early May after suffering from Spinal Cord infection. Until his death, he handled the morning belt from 6 am to 11 am Monday to Thursday, while his Saturday morning ‘Rap and Hip-hop Classics’ was a hit among millions of lovers of that genre of music.
He is survived by his young wife and two kids.
