Aggrieved drivers have on Wednesday blocked Kaduna-Kano expressway to protest the arrest of their colleagues leaving a large number of motorists stranded.

Investigation conducted by NAN revealed that the blockage started at about 5:00p.m. blocking many motoris plying the highway.

An eye witness, Malam Lawal Jirgi told NAN that the trouble started when a group of drivers attempted to remove speed breakers on the expressway, near Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria.

He said while the drivers were busy trying to remove the speed breakers a military man who saw them alerted the police who arrested 19 of them and charged them to Magistrate Court, Kofar Fada.

When contacted, the spokesman of Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident said the arrested persons had violated the law.

“The arrested people have no right whatsoever to remove the speed breakers, their action is totally against the law.”

He said the police were fully in control of the situation, assuring that very soon things would be normalised.

NAN reports that as at the time of filing this report the road was still being blocked.by the protesting drivers.

However, NAN learnt the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Alhaji Umar Usman-Shehu, ordered the release of the 19 arrested persons to facilitate free flow of vehicles on the expressway.
