Former Super Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is not happy with the dwindling fortune of Nigerian football in the last few years.
The Nigerian international said the country is no longer a force to be reckoned with in African football, while the country’s prestige in the world stage has gone down.
The former Bolton Wanderers of London’s skipper noted that Nigeria’s various teams no longer command respect as they are now living on past glory, a situation which has become worrisome to him and other former Nigerian internationals.
To Okocha, who is the chairman of Delta State Football Association, the country has to look inward for her to get out of the present woes she found herself, adding that a functional grassroots football development is the way forward.
“We can only get out of this problem we found ourselves if we go back to the grassroots because this is where the future lies,” he said.
