The Chief Imam of Offa in Kwara state, Western Nigeria, Sheikh Muhydeen Huassain Salman Al-Adabiyy, has warned that Nigeria, like other parts of the world would soon be visited by the wrath of God.

“Except the people change their ways, they cannot escape this wrath,” he said at Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Lagos state during a Ramadan lecture organised by Abdulbaq Ladi-Balogun, former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who represented Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 1 in the seventh Assembly.

Sheikh Al-Adabiyy, who told the crowd that the traditional ruler of Offa town directed him to honour the former lawmaker despite having another event in Offa, disclosed that events unfolding in the world currently had been seen by Prophet Mohammed.

According to him, during his last sermon on earth, the Prophet had predicted that a time would come when neighbours would turn against themselves irrespective of religion.

He also quoted Prophet Mohammed as preaching then that at a time, lies would overshadow the truth and the rich would treat the poor with disdain.

He asked how islamic it was for people to bomb places of worship in the name of the same religion that preaches peaceful coexistence and love for one another.

He lamented that nowadays, it is not uncommon to see clergymen who, rather than preach the message and bring people to God, now engage in worshipping money instead.

For example, he said these clergymen have now stooped so low to the extent of campaigning for politicians and even going about helping them to paste posters during campaigns.

He however warned them against turning their husbands’ houses into war zones as some, he said, always want their children to inherit properties and so turn their step children wayward.

To politicians, he warned that they must be conscious that God would hold them responsible for how they treat the electorate.

He lamented that most of these politicians go close to those considered poor in the society only during campaigns and that after elections, these same poor people are forgotten.

“How many of you do even shake hands with the poor in the society after elections?” He asked.

He reminded the politicians and “big men” in the society to remember that these same poor people who they shun now, are the same people who would prepare them for burial at death.

He said the moral decadence in the society had reached a peak where it is almost becoming normal to hear of a woman and her daughter getting pregnant for the same man while some women now encourage their female children to go into prostitution just for them to live big.

He warned women who destroy their husbands’ homes to favour their own children to desist because they would end up destroying their own children instead.

He also warned the husbands against treating their wives and children as slaves as they faced dire punishment for such act.

Speaking with journalists at the event, Ladi-Balogun said the Ramadan lecture would be the sixth he would be organising for the people.

He said he was happy that everyone who attended the event had a message to take home.

He said many of the atrocities happening in the world currently are the result of the fact that people no longer take issues of God serious adding that this was why the last sermon of Prophet Mohammed remains an apt reminder of what the average Muslim should be.

He also used the opportunity to call for effective resolution of the crisis in the National Assembly saying he was sure that his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has enough sound minds to quickly resolve the crisis.

He also promised to continue with the annual lectures as long as God gave him the strength to do so since he is often encouraged by the turn-outs and the messages.

He preached peaceful co-existence, especially at this time in the Islamic calendar.
