The representative of Mushin Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abdul-Sobur Olayiwola Olawale, has said promised to spend a major part of his activities at the House fighting and creating the opportunity for children in his constituency to be educated.

Being educated, Olawale said, is one of the surest ways growing children would be discouraged from engaging in violent activities and other societal ills.

The lawmaker, who is just a month old at the House, after his inauguration, stated this when he distributed 200 forms to prospective candidates for the General Certificate of Education, GCE, examination at the Assembly complex.

“Without education, we will only end up breeding miscreants, street urchins and ultimately terrorist as Nigeria currently experiences in the Northern parts. In other words decisive steps must be taken towards educating our children and youths.

“It is for this reason we are gathered today, to assist our youths in attaining their dreams and academic pursuit through distribution of free GCE forms to 200 deserving students in 10 wards that constitute my constituency in Mushin and I am sure that this simple exercise will mould their destinies and transform their lives”, he said

The forms were giving out to students from the 10 wards in his constituency in the presence of 10 ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The forms also come with free tutorial classes for the candidates ahead of the examination.

The lawmaker advised the beneficiaries to shun addiction to social media if they truly want to be successful in their examination.

“A good student should be fastidious with his studies and make sure that they face their studies squarely,” Olawale, a former teacher, told them.

“Our young ones are the strength of our society. How else can we develop our youths without proper and adequate education? That is extremely impossible,” the lawmaker said adding that he would continue with his free computer training programme which had been running for 13 years now with more than nearly 2000 graduates, most of whom are now gainfully employed.

Speaking with P.M. NEWS, he said it had been a part of him to assist. “It might interest you to know that we have not been paid our salaries, but I believe thatt shouldn’t be a hindrance for me to carry my constituents along.

“This is the period for enrollment. If I don’t do this now, these 200 students and candidates would forfeit this opportunity.

While commending the lawmaker over the gesture, Sola Osobajo, the chairman for Ward J, said: “we chose you to represent us because you are capable and what you have done today proves that our confidence in you is not misplaced.”
