Promoter of GOtv Boxing Night, Flykite Productions has named the Best Boxer trophy of the GOtv Boxing Night after the late wife of the chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria, Dewunmi Ogunsanya, Mojisola who died of cancer last year.

To this end, the Best Boxer trophy will be christened Mojisola Ogunsanya Trophy from the third edition of GOtv Boxing Night which will hold on 26 July inside the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to Jenkins Alumona, CEO of Flykite Productions, promoters of the six-bout professional boxing event, the naming of the Best Boxer trophy after Mojisola Ogunsanya is to honour the late respected judge at the Igbosere Magistrate Court on Lagos Island.

The Best Boxer trophy will also go with a cash prize of N1 million, the first of its kind in any boxing championship in Nigeria.

Jenkins assured boxing fans of security during the championship which begins form 5pm with live telecast on DStv.

“We noticed some lapses during the second edition in March this year and I want to assure that these won’t repeat themselves in this July tournament. We are planning to give our fans the best night of good boxing and entertainment, as the GOtv Boxing Night is a gradual restoration of professional boxing in Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the NBB of C, Dr. Chike Eluekwe, has said that the coming of GOtv into sponsorship of a boxing championship was a relief to the sport that has witnessed dearth of tournaments over the years.

He attested to the fact that the GOtv Boxing Night would revive boxing in the country.

“I’m so happy that this competition has come to stay because GOtv is a brand associated with quality,” he said.
