Nigerian international Lukman Haruna will make his debut for his new club, Anzhi Makhachkala in Russian premier league on Sunday when they play away to Krylya Sovetov Samara.
Anzhi Makhachkala recently completed the signing of midfielder Haruna Lukman on a season-long loan deal from Dynamo Kiev.
Last season at Dynamo, the former Golden Eaglets player made 18 appearances for Serhiy Rebrov’s men with nine of them as substitute.
Now Lukman has a chance to revive his career in Russia with Anzhi where he hopes to get more regular playing time.
Fatia Haruna, his brother who is also his agent, hinted that the former Flying Eagles star opted for to go to Russia because he knows much about Russian football.
“In Russia, it won’t be too tough for him to cope. He had other options from clubs in England, Spain but we sat down in the family and critically appraised these options and picked Russia. I have the confidence that he will give is 100 per cent at the club,” said Fatia
Haruna will compete with Valeriu Ciupercă, Ivan Mayewski and Batraz Khadartsev for a place in Yuri Semin’s starting XI as the Anzhi-Arena outfit look to improve on their second-placed finish in the 2014-15 campaign.
Haruna has played in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, the French league and the Ukrainian league.
