The British Council has called for applications from theatre companies, students and academics ahead of the Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 and will provide a support between N500,000 – N1,000,000.
For four years, the British Council has been working on theatre projects in Nigeria fostering exchange and collaboration between Nigerian and British artists and presenting cutting-edge British theatre in Lagos.
In 2013 the British Council presented Lagos Theatre Festival at Eko Hotel, an ambitious showcase of site specific theatre by both Nigerian and British artists.
The 2014 edition of the Festival took place at Freedom Park and saw four productions inspired by Lagos take place over three days.
The theme for Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 is inspired by the Future and the British Council is seeking theatre companies to produce work at Freedom Park and the University of Lagos amongst other locations. The British Council will support successful applicants with a grant of between N500,000 – N1,000,000.
Students and academics that are passionate about working outside of conventional theatre and gallery spaces are encouraged to apply.
Companies that can bring in additional funding from other sources will be at an advantage.
Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 will run from 23 – 28 February 2016.
