The Commandant-General (CG), of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, says there is lack of professionalism in the private guard practice in the country.
Muhammadu bared his mind when a delegation of the Association of Licensed Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALSPN), visited him in Abuja.
This is contained in statement issued by Mr Emmanuel Okeh, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, in Abuja on Thursday.
It quoted Muhammadu as saying that private guard companies (PGCs) in the country were operating below national standard.
He said that one of the top priorities of the agency under his watch was to enthrone professionalism in the private guard practice in the country.
Earlier, Mr Davidson Akhimien, who led the ALSPN delegation, assured the NSCDC of the association’s support in raising the standard of practice.
“Nigeria has all it takes to surmount its internal security challenges without involving foreigners with no understanding of our peculiarities,” the statement quoted Akhimien as saying.
According to the statement, he lauded “the open door policy of the NSCDC which has led to the creation of a vibrant private security industry in the country.”
