The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is working to improve its internal and external communications for effective electoral process to minimise speculations.

The commission’s Daily Bulletin issued on Wednesday in Abuja quoted the INEC acting Chairman, Hajia Amina Zakari, as saying this when the Committee Members of INEC Press Corps paid her a courtesy visit.

“We have nothing to hide; we have to work seriously with the communication policy, improve our internal and external communication in order to dispel rumours and speculations,” Zakari was quoted as saying.

She emphasised the need for training of journalists and maintaining cordial relationship with them to ensure that the policies and activities of the commission were not misrepresented.

Zakari appreciated the contributions of the media toward the successes achieved in the 2015 general elections and urged them to uphold the ethics of the
profession.

“INEC will continue to work with the INEC press corps as the commission is determined to move toward improving the electoral system,” she said.

According to the bulletin, the Chairman of the INEC press corps, Okechukwu Nnabuchi, called for improved working relationship and communication between INEC and the press corps to reduce speculations.

Nnabuchi stressed the need for training of the press corps members to enhance their skills and capacity in reporting the commission.
