The Rotary Club of Hiltop, Calabar, has donated some food items and N200,000 cash to inmates of Pope John Paul II Good Samaritan Home for the Aged and Needy, Calabar.

The President of the club, Mrs Edege Ekam, who donated the items on Saturday, said it was the organisation’s way of reaching out to the needy and aged in society.

The food items donated included three bags of beans, 30 tubers of yam, three bags of rice, beverages, soap, among others.

Ekam said that the donation was in line with the objective of the club’s slogan ‘Be a gift to the world’.

“As part of our activities lined up for this year, we will also reach out to other groups in the society and assist them with food items and humanitarian gifts,” she added.

Receiving the donation, a guardian in the home, Mrs Gordismaria Ugwoke, thanked the club for their humanitarian gesture.

Ugwoke said that the gifts would go a long way in taking care of the inmates and prayed God to bless the members in all their endeavours.

She urged other philanthropists and corporate organisations to emulate the club and make the world a better place for all.
