Governor Nasir El-rufa’i of Kaduna State on Tuesday appointed new Accountant-General for the state and announced the retirement of three permanent secretaries from the civil service.

The new Accountant-General is Malam Umar Waziri.

A statement issued by Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the governor in Kaduna described the changes as part of ongoing reorganisation of the state’s public service for greater performance.

Aruwan said “the new Accountant-General is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).”

He stated that Waziri who was born in Zaria in 1971, studied Accounting at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and graduated in 1995.

Waziri had worked with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) as Internal Auditor and had been running his own accounting firm.

The statement listed the retired permanent secretaries as Adamu Makadi (Local Government); Ibrahim Balarabe Musa (Youth, Sports and Culture) and Ishaku Shekari (Accountant-General).

They were directed to hand over to the most senior director in their ministries.

The statement quoted El-Rufa’i as expressing appreciation to the retired officials for services rendered.
