A 26-year-old man, Cheka Samuel, who allegedly burgled a church, has confessed to the police that he went to the church to steal the offering and when he did not find any money in the box, he carted away their musical instruments to sell.
On the fateful day, members of the Soul Fishers Assembly church woke up in the morning to attend church service, only to discover that the church had been burgled and all their musical instruments carted away in Ajao Estate, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The incident happened at the church premises located at 6, New World Street, Ajao Estate.
A search for the instruments led to the arrest of Samuel after the church discovered that he was the person that burgled the church.
He was handed over to the police at Ajao Estate Division.
During interrogation, Samuel allegedly confessed that he was the person that burgled the church and stole the musical instruments.
He also revealed that he had no intention to steal the instruments but was compelled to do so because he did not see any money in the offering box.
The police recovered the items which include, 16 channels mixer, base and amplifiers whose monetary worth could not be immediately ascertained.
Samuel was charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court with stealing under the Criminal Code and he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 27 August, 2015.
