The newly-appointed Director General, DG, of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Ayodele Agbesanwa, resumed at his duty post Monday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Agbesanwa before his new appointment was announced by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday, was the Director News, Lagos Television (LTV), Ikeja.

A press statement which announced his appointment by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said that Ambode believes in Agbesanwa to use his years of experience to drive the governor’s commitment to revive sports development in the state.

The pioneer Director General (DG) of the Lagos State Sports Commission is a social scientist, broadcaster and administrator.

He is also has vast experience in the art of managing human and material resources.

Agbesanwa held various posts at LTV before becoming the Director, News of the foremost television station.

He was formerly the Director, Current Affairs (2005- 2009), Manager News and Current Affairs (2000- 2005) and Controller Documentation (1996- 2000).

He rose from Current Affairs Officer 1983 through the ranks to head the Reportorial Duties department.

He has a Masters’ Degree in Political Science (International Relations) from the University of Lagos obtained in 1982, and B.Sc in Social Science from the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) obtained in 1980.

He also went to C.M.S. Grammar School, Lagos where he obtained Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1976. He was a former student of Molusi College, Ijebu – Igbo, Ogun State and Methodist Primary School, Surulere, Lagos.
He underwent professional trainings and seminars both in Nigeria and recently in Manchester, England.

Agbesanwa had worked in various departments, especially the sports unit of LTV where he presented all sports programmes on the station for over 15 years.

Governor Ambode, as part of the reform of the operation of his government when he assumed office, transformed the state’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development to Lagos State Sports Commission.

Administration of sports in Lagos has since been moved from the seat of government at Alausa, Ikeja to Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

It is expected that the appointment of the Chairman of the Commission, who will have the status of a Commissioner, will be announced by the Governor soon.
