2 landlords land in prison over alleged theft

Two landlords and community leaders at Ajah, Eti Osa LGA of Lagos State, western Nigeria, Samodu Jimoh Abudu, 56, and Akeju Salako, 70, have been arrested by operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos for allegedly breaking and entering a compound belonging to Oluwasola Sangowawa to steal his properties valued at N3m.

After investigation by Sgt. Kolawole Idowu and his team, the suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court, Lagos on a three-count charge of felony to wit: breaking, entry and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector S. Molo, informed the court in charge No. E/24/2015 that the accused committed the offence on 6 July, 2015 at Owode Ado Kekere, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos.

Molo told the court that the accused persons and others now at large broke into the compound of the complainant to steal her iron rod and granite valued at N3 m without her consent and escaped.

Molo noted that the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409, 305(b) and 285(1) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused persons, however, denied the police allegations in the open court and Magistrate Mrs. A. O. Komolafe admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum who must have proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

Komolafe also directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the accused persons.

She adjourned the case till 14 September, 2015 for mention while the defendants were taken to Ikoyi Prison when they could not fulfill their bail conditions before the court closed proceedings for the day.
