544-man contingent leaves for Africa Games

Nigerian-athletes-acknowledging cheers

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) on Tuesday confirmed the departure of a contingent of 544 athletes and officials to the 11th All Africa Games (AAG) holding in Congo, Brazzaville.

The Games are scheduled to run from Sept. 4 to Sept. 19. The delegation left the country for Congo on Aug. 31.

A source at the NOC said the country entered for a total of 20 sports codes.

The teams comprise, Athletics with 44 athletes and officials; Football, 54: Basketball, 31; Wrestling, 22; Judo, 19: Boxing, 19; Swimming, 8; Badminton, 20; Table Tennis, 17 and Tennis, 12.

Others are Weightlifting, 22; Taekwondo, 22; Karate, 15; Handball, 43; Gymnastics, 16; Cycling, 18; Volleyball, 42; Para Powerlifting, 32 and Para Athletics, 32.

They would also be accompanied by 56 contingent officials, made up officials of the NOC, Medical team and Secretariat officials.
