Landlord, 65, arrested for killing tenant’s toddler son

Police detectives attached to Otta Division of the state command have arrested a lanlord, Joseph Olaleye, 65, for setting ablaze his tenant’s 3-year-old son, Abdullahi Razaq.

The incident which occurred at Olowosatide, Owode Ijako Otta in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State, threw the area into confusion as people tried to save the boy before he finally died in the hospital.

In a statement signed by the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, described the incident as unfortunate and has directed that the suspect be charged to court immediately after investigation.

“The incident occurred when the suspect threw an ignited kerosene stove at the boy, who was a son to Olalekan Razak, one of the tenants of the suspect.

“The victim suffered severe injuries before he was rushed to a hospital in Otta where he was confirmed dead,” according to the police statement.

The police boss sympathised with the family of the boy and assured them that the suspect, if found guilty, would be severely dealt with.
