As President Muhammadu Buhari marks his first 100 days in office as a democratically elected president on 5 September, politicians and other stakeholders in Kaduna State, northwest Nigeria, have said the period is not enough to assess the president.

Most of those who spoke to P.M.NEWS correspondent described his performance as laudable and focused.

Former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa said there is nothing tangible that President Buhari has done to warrant assessment or commendation.

Balarabe Musa however praised Buhari’s commitment to anti-corruption and urged him to seek a legislation for a sustainable anti-corruption fight.

In doing this, Balarabe who is also the National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, said Buhari must listen to advice and do the right thing.

Former Spokesman to Vice President Namadi Sambo, Alhaji Umar Sani, who spoke to P.M.NEWS via telephone from the United States of America, said it is too early to assess a leader who has only spent a hundred days in office.
However, he advised Buhari to concentrate on revamping the economy and ensuring sustainable development.

The Chairman, Northern Elders Council, Tanko Yakassai, said to assess a president who has not formed his cabinet would be subjective.

He posited: “We can assess the president without prejudice after he has appointed ministers. Until then, we are waiting.”

However, while he scored Buhari very high on the effort to rid Nigeria of corruption, he also submitted that hundred days is not enough to judge a leader.

Kaduna-based human rights activist and Senator Representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, said President Buhari has restored hope, trust and confidence of Nigerians within 100 days.

According to him, within hundred days in office, Buhari has demonstrated his capacity, ability and willingness to eradicate corruption as well as lift Nigeria from decades in dungeon of darkness to an unprecedented horizon of light.

In the area of security, Sani noted that Buhari has proved his determination to protect Nigeria and Nigerians and end the scourge of terrorism.

Though other Kaduna residents interviewed expressed satisfaction with the manner Buhari has managed the economy, security and other strategic sectors such as oil and power as well as tackle corruption, they expect the president to remain focused and committed in his efforts to wipe out corruption and tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.
