4 suspected kidnappers arrested after collecting N3m ransom

Operatives of the Department of State Security Service, DSS, have arrested four suspected kidnappers and charged them before a Lagos court after they allegedly kidnapped a victim and collected N3m ransom from the victim’s family in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspects are Ramoni Shofodun, Marcus Azilo, Raphael Omoro and Solomon Omojowo.

The incident happened on 2 July, 2015 at Imagbon area in Ikorodu where the victim was kidnapped and kept in captivity.

All the suspects are male and reside in Ikorodu area where they allegedly perpetrated the crime of kidnapping in Lagos and its environs.

They were arrested by DSS after they allegedly kidnapped Owagbemi Ebenezer Dare and kept her in captivity for some days until the ransom was paid.

P.M.NEWS gathered that while the victim was in captivity the suspects established link with the family of the victim and negotiated for N3m as ransom before her release.

Sources said the suspects did not know that they were being trailed by security operatives before and after the payment of the ransom.

They were later arrested by the officers of Department of State Security Service.

They were charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court with conspiracy and kidnapping under the Criminal Code.

They pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adebayo granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum who must show evidence tax payment for three years.

They were remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when they will perfect their bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 23 September, 2015.
