2 men arrested for forging Customs clearing papers

The police at Ajao Estate have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in forging the Nigeria Customs and Excise Service documents to clear goods at the Apapa wharf in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspects, Joseph Lazard, 35, and Abiodun, 37, P.M.NEWS gathered, allegedly specialised in forging customs clearing papers to clear goods at the wharf without the knowledge of the authorities.

According to the police, following a tip off, the suspects were caught with forged clearing papers with serial number C14311 dated 11 March, 2015 when they attempted to clear a Volkswagen Golf car with chassis number PW 435759.

They were charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court where they pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ogbomoiko granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 23 September, 2015 for mention.
