Southwest APC Support Group Set for zonal election

All arrangements have been concluded for the Coalition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups (Southwest Zone) to hold a Congress to elect consensus candidates for the coming national convention of the Coalition of APC Support Groups.

The electoral committee saddled with the mandate to conduct the Congress was appointed in Abuja Tuesday by the Steering Committee of the Southwest Zone headed by the interim Chairman, Hon. Adebisi Abraham.

The Chairman of the electoral committee is Prince Feyisayo Ijifusi from Ondo State. Other members of the committee are Dr. Gboyega Adefokun, Mrs. Adenike Olasoji and Engineer Austin Pelemo.

A circular sent to all members of the Coalition of APC Support Group (Southwest Zone) by the secretary of the Steering Committee, Comrade Majeed Yahaya stated that only the coordinators of each group in the zone will take part in the Congress.

“I am directed by the Steering Committee of the Coalition of APC Support Group (Southwest Zone) to invite all Coordinators to a general meeting and southwest zonal congress/consensus election for zonal executives of the Coalition which will take place at the Caseg Garden, opposite GT Bank, off Wuse Market, Abuja from 19-21 September starting from 10:00 am prompt each day,” Comrade Yahaya said in the circular.

He, however, warned that no proxy will be allowed to take part in the Congress, adding that, the Coordinators should come with certificates of group registration issued by the National Secretariat of the APC, their party membership cards and voter’s cards.

The Chairman of the electoral committee, Prince Ijifusi assured all stakeholders of an integrity based outcome of the Congress. He urged various contenders to accept the outcome of the poll for the interest of the group.

The Coalition is a body of all independent groups that worked for the success of APC in the last general elections. It comprises of about 185 groups across the country.

The Central Working Committee of the APC headed by Chief John Oyegun, was represented by Chief Segun Oni, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) inaugurated the Steering Committee of the Coalition on 27 May, 2015 and directed that democratically elected national officers through an open National Convention be put in pace within three months.

A time table for the election was subsequently released on 26 August, 2015 by the APC through the Chairman of Election Management Committee headed by Hon. Chris Owoicho.

What we want to do during the Southwest Congress is for us to put forward consensus candidates for the national convention of the Coalition which we strongly believe we hold very soon. There are some posts that have been zoned to our region. These are Deputy National Chairman (South), National Vice Chairman (Southwest), National Treasurer, National Youth Leader, National Welfare Secretary.

“The aforementioned national positions have been zoned to different states within the Southwest. So we gave the post of Deputy National Chairman (South) to Ondo State, National Vice Chairman (southwest) to Lagos State, National Treasurer to Oyo State, National Youth Leader to Osun State and National Welfare Secretary to Ogun State, ” said Comrade Yahaya.
