The new legal year in Lagos State Judiciary will take off Monday. As as usual, the new legal year will be ushered in by prayer worship at both Lagos Central Mosque and Anglican Cathedral Church, Marina, Lagos, respectively.

Thereafter, the Chief Judge of the State, Mrs Olufunmilayo Atilade, will inspect a guard of honour at the premises of the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, Lagos Island. A police band is expected to perform during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the new Legal Year of the Federal High Court in Nigeria will commence on 12 October and the ceremony will be held this year in Nasarawa, Nasarawa State.

According to a release issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Ndahi Auta, the new Legal Year will be preceded with Church and Mosque services at the Nasarawa State capital where prayers would be offered, followed by judges’ conference the following day.

These ceremonies are always attended by lawyers, judges and dignitaries across country.

For the past two months the courts have been on vacation. Only two judges attended to matters of extreme importance, especially matters that bordered on fundamental right enforcement.
