NGO trains 20 couples on marriage sustenance

Aqui Agora, A Non-Governmental Organisation, has trained 20 couples in Abuja on how to overcome challenges and sustain their marriage.

NAN reports that beneficiaries of the two-day training, included newly married and old couples.

Speaking with NAN at the end of the training, Ms Nelly Ohuche, the Public Relations Officer of the NGO, said the training was to make the couples remain united in marriage, no matter the challenges.

According to Ohuche, family unity remained the bedrock of every society.

“These days, many couples face challenges, so the essence of the training is to enhance the quality of marital union and develop stable marriage relationship,” she said.

She said the training, which theme is “Rose and Hearts” also offered the participants the opportunity to examine common marital challenges faced, with a view to proffering solutions to them.

She listed lack of love, infidelity, quest for materialism, family interference, lack of trust and as causes of separation and divorce in most marriages.

Ohuche said other factors were ineffective communications, keeping of malice and domestic violence.

She said the training would be held biannually to promote dialogue between couples, with professional counselors proffering solutions to causes of misunderstanding among couples.

Mr Emmanuel Igba-Ujene , one the resource persons at the event, said the concept of the training was to promote better understanding and good relationship between couples.

Igba- Ujene said that there were a lot of challenges in the marriage institutions which such training could help to resolve.

Mrs Timothy Osuba, one of the participants, thanked the organizers of the training, saying that many marriages were in ‘critical condition’ and needed urgent intervention to survive.
