Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has declared that the legacies left behind by the late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, trascend Yoruba nation.

Amosun moved straight to Ikenne hometown of the Awolowos immediately he arrived from Saudi Arabia Sunday aftermoon to commiserate with the family over the death of the wife of the first Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

He described HID Awolowo as a woman of substance who was among the first generation of mothers and wives that stood by their husbands.

According to him, “our Mama has finally gone to rest and it really pains us, but we thank God for her well spent life. Life that was devoted to the family, to the town, to state, to the country and to humanity at large.

“Mama was among the first generation of good mothers and wives who stood firmly by their husbands. We should not mourn her, but rather celebrate the demise of this great woman of substance.

“Her legacies trascend the Yoruba nation. She was a great woman who will be missed in the country, especially this time when the dreams of her late husband are about to be seen and felt with the change mission of President Muhammed Buhari

“We will do everything within our reach to immortalise Mama, so that generations yet unborn will remember this woman who has done so much for the state.

“We are also going to play a prominent role in the burial of Mama. She was our mother and she contributed a lot to the growth of this state and unity of the Yoruba nation.”

HID Awolowo died at the ripe age of 99, with barely 67 days to her centenary celebration on 25 November, 2015.

Arrangements were in top gear for the celebration of the centenary birthday of the woman before she died on Saturday, 17 September, 2015 at Ikenne.

The family, through the eldest daughter of the deceased, Chief (Mrs) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, last week told newsmen that her mother’s burial has been fixed for 25 November, the late matriarch’s birthday.
