An uncompleted storey building collapsed on Thursday at New Osoosun area of Ifo in Ifo local government area of Ogun state, western Nigeria.

The incident occurred after a heavy rainfall.

No life was reported lost in the incident but property worth millions of naira were destroyed in the building.

The building located at Temole bus stop, Titilayo junction, New Osoosun area, Old bank bus stop, Ifo was still under construction when the incident happened.

A bricklayer around the area, who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that “some of us have observed that the building was not strong enough. The mixing of the cement and sand was the first observation and we complained to the workers on the site then, but they never listen to us.

“One of them even put up a fight with us, claiming that we were planning to hijack the job from them. Information at our disposal was that the wishes of the owner was what the bricklayers were doing.

“Poor management of materials was also observed. Where they supposed to erect three pillars, they erected two and the two were not well positioned, all these aided the rain to destroy the building,” the source narrated.

Our correspondent who was at the area reports that most buildings around the area may collapse soon as persistent rain is wreaking havoc in the area.

In areas such as Kedus, Iyana Eledoki, Ago Adura, NRC and Omo Jo Daddy, Arogunyo and Ajipate, Titilayo junction, most buildings look weak and if the rains persist, more buildings may collapse.

All efforts to get the identity of the owner of the collapsed building, proved futile as none of the residents in the area was ready to speak with our correspondent.
