Dutse Local Government Council of Jigawa on Monday said it would vaccinate at least 111,180 children against polio in the ongoing immunisation programme.

The council’s Information Officer, Malam Ya’u Garba, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Garba said that the council has received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He explained that the children would be immunised against polio and other child-killer diseases during the five-day exercise.

The council spokesman said that 603 trained ad-hoc staff would conduct the immunisation exercise.

According to him, the Head of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in the council, Alhaji Babangida Musa, had aready mobilised traditional leaders in the area to support the programme.

NAN reports that the polio immunisation for the month of October was flagged off in all the 27 local government areas of the state on Saturday.
