The organizers of the maiden Kiddies Olympics scheduled to take place in Lagos next week have announced its postponement.

Rising from a meeting in Lagos, the Project Management Committee (PMC) of the Kiddies Olympics, which includes the officials of Klozit Limited, Isaac Daniel and members of the Association of Lagos State SUBEB Sports Officers (ALSSO), says the Kiddies Olympics will now hold from 30 November to 4 December this year.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PMC, Mr. Charles Ukiri, said that the postponement became necessary because some of the facilities for the camping of the schools pupils during the week-long competition are not ready due to circumstances beyond the control of the organisers.

“In view of the fact that we want to organise a world class first Kiddies Olympics in Lagos, we want to do this in a conducive environment that will give the kids chance to freely exercise their God-given talent,” Ukiri said.

He said that at the technical level, all is set for the games, as the SUBEB Sport officers have been doing a very good job to ensure that the championship meets acceptable standard.

National President, SUBEB Sport Office, Prince Olu Akapo said: “The children are very important to us and their safety and well-being should not be joked with. That is why we believe that we must do everything within our power to do a competition that will be crisis free where our pupils will have fun and enjoy themselves. By the grace of God my office is on top of the situation to ensure that the Games holds as scheduled now. I want to appreciate all my sports officers for the commitment put into this project.”

Chairman of the PMC, Mr. Nurudeen Aluko said that “we are trying to put the all necessary facilities in place before starting the event. And we want to appeal to government, corporate bodies, sport loving people, sport associations to support this competition so that we can together celebrate these children and discover talent at tender age. At least, 322 medals would be up for grabs in the one week glamorous event.”

The Kiddies Olympics is put together by Association of SUBEB Sport Officers and Klozit Limited in conjunction with Isaac Daniels and endorsed by Lagos State Sport Commission (schools Sport), Universal Basic Education board (SUBEB).

The finals will feature sports such as Football, Track and Field, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Handball and Taekwondo (Boys and Girls) with at least 2,300 pupils in public
schools in Lagos State and 300 officials.
