Employment scam: Man dupes 5 persons of N1.1m

The police in Benin, capital of Edo state, has arraigned one Olusanmi Kolawole before an Egor Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding five job seekers the sum of N1, 160, 000.

Olusanmi, 57, who was arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on false pretense, was said to have committed the offense on 8 April, 2013, in Egor local government area of the state.

According to prosecution, the suspect allegedly collected about N200, 000 from each the five victims, whose names were given as Bello Samson, Samuel Ekpudu, Innocent Oboh, Gbenga Olukoya, and Yemi Olukoya, while promising to secure appointments for them at the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

‎The offence was said to have contravened Section 508 of the Criminal Code and punishable under section 419 of the Criminal Cap 48 Vol II laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, as applicable in the state.

‎The accused who pleaded not guilty to all the charges, was granted bail by the Presiding Magistrate, Igho Braimoh, in the sum of N250, 000 and a surety in like sum, who must be gainfully employed.

‎She thereafter adjourned the case to 10 December, 2015 for further hearing.
