The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) said on Tuesday that camping for the forthcoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games would commence soon.
The NOC’s Secretary-General, Tunde Popoola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the programme would enable the nation’s athletes to be adequately prepared for the quadrennial event.
“Preparing well and early will help us to perform well.
“They have rested enough after the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville. It is time to swing into action for the 2016 Olympics,’’ he said.
Popoola told NAN that the exercise would be programmed in a manner that would be beneficial to all the sports disciplines.
“The camping venues will exclusively hold in different venues for each sport,’’ he said.
The secretary added that the athletes would make use of the best sporting facilities available, for their training.
“They will be camped in places with the most modern and adequate facilities that will boost good performances in Rio.
“No stone will be left unturned to ensure that we record a good outing at the Olympics,’’ he said.
Popoola also said that sports in the category `A’ grouping would be among the first batch to commence the camping programme.
“Sports like athletics and wrestling will take-off by passing through the high performance centre in Abuja, before progressing to the next level.’
