Senate in rowdy session over Amaechi’s confirmation

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday was thrown into a rowdy session over the confirmation of former governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, one of the 18 ministerial nominees slated for confirmation Thursday.
Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators expressed their reservation over the confirmation of the former governor in view of the petition against him over alleged fraud.
Senator George Sekibo from Rivers State tried to convince the senators to toe the path of morality by not confirming Amaechi.
However, Senator Babajide Omoworare replied him by quoting extensively from the constitution and senate rules to nullify the argument of Sekibo.
As things got out of hand the PDP senators staged a walkout but the Senate went ahead to confirm Amaechi and the other 17 nominees that had earlier been screened.
Thereafter, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, wished the confirmed nominees a successful tenure as ministers and urged them to work with President Muhammadu to move Nigeria forward.
He said the ministers would be held accountable for all the promises they made during the screening exercise.
