Two persons escaped death when a storey building under construction collapsed in Badagry area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on Tuesday.

The building located on Olagunju Street, near St. Triumph Primary School, Magbo Bus Stop, caved in around 12:43pm today with the workers working on the site when the incident occurred.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele told P.M.NEWS that the building had earlier been marked by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, stop further construction.

He said the developer ignored the order and continued working before the building collapsed in on Tuesday.

Acording to him, two construction workers were injured and were treated by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS at the scene of the collapse.

“The building was a storey building under construction and LASBCA had marked the building in order to stop the ongoing construction. However, two construction workers (adult male) at the site were injured and were treated by LASAMBUS officials at the spot.

“Furthermore, the primary school beside the scene of the incident was not affected. Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the collapse,” Akindele said.

Director, Lagos State Fire Services, Rasak Fadipe, also confirmed that two persons were injured in the collapse, saying that the Fire Station from Badagry responded to the incident.
