Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed after fire razed down Sarafoam factory in Kirikiri area of Apapa, Lagos, western Nigeria.

The fire started around 1.30pm while as at 5.00pm, it had not been put out by fire servicemen and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA.

Fire service officials, LASEMA, the police and other emergency responders arrived the scene shortly after the fire broke out and cordoned off the area to enable them battle the fire effectively.

General Manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele told P.M.NEWS that the extent of damage was colossal.

He said it was not certain what caused the fire, but noted that it was alleged to have started from the textile area of the foam factory.

Akindele stated that the fire was reported around 1:30pm and that all responders were on ground while the whole factory was affected by the fire.

According to him, most of the materials in the factory were combustible, fuelling the fire the more, but said there were no casualties.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said the fire was so severe that three fire trucks with 10,000 litres of water each were despatched to the scene to combat it.
