The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River has appealed to Governor Ben Ayade to donate an ambulance bus to the scheme in the state.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Edith Anidobi, made the appeal in an interview with NAN in Calabar on Friday.
Anidobi said that the ambulance would enhance the operations of the scheme during and after the orientation course for corps members posted to the state.
She said the ambulance would be useful during emergencies and would help the scheme to respond quickly to health challenges from corps members and staff.
“The lack of an ambulance for use during and after the orientation course is one of our immediate challenges.
“The distance of the NYSC camp in Obubra Local Government Area from the referral hospital in Ugep Local Government where we usually take emergency cases to is very far.
“The distance is a risk to life and I am appealing to the state governor to come to our aid,” she said.
She said the utility vehicle of the NYSC, which sometimes doubles as an ambulance, was in a bad state, hence the need for a new ambulance.
The state coordinator thanked Ayade for the welfare and adequate security given to serving corps members in the state.
Anidobi advised corps members serving to be law abiding in their host communities and to also carry out meaningful Community Development Services.
