The Redeemed Church of God International Christian Centre, Durumi, has donated 700 bags of rice (25kg) worth N3.5 million to the less privileged and widows in the FCT.
The church also used the occasion to offer free medical services to the less privileged.
Pastor Emmanuel Ibitayo, who is in charge of the Durumi Province of the church, said the gesture was to show that the church cared for people within its immediate community.
Ibitayo stressed the need to reach out to meet the “physical needs” of the people apart from their spiritual needs.
Many of the widows, who benefited from the donation, were wives of security personnel who died in the course of fighting insurgency in the North East.
It will be recalled that the church donated over 500 bags of rice and other items to the less privileged shortly before Christmas in 2014.
Mr Charles Iroro, one of the pastors in the church, said that the church gave the items to people who could not ordinarily afford to buy at this period of time.
“This is to make them have something to celebrate the forthcoming Christmas,” Iroro said, adding that salvation was not only for the soul as man is a total being.”
During the free medical services on the beneficiaries, tests were carried out to ascertain their blood pressure, sugar level as well as their HIV status, among others.
One of the pharmacists, Mrs Koko Ajayi, told newsmen that the over 100 people who were attended to were given drugs and counsel led on general life styles.
Ajayi, however, said that the result of the tests showed that many of them had high blood pressure.
“People that need to go to the hospital, we have given them consultations,” she said.
