Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts for State in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Moshood Oshun, has described the death of former Governor Abubakar Audu of Kogi State as a rude shock that is very difficult to contain.

Oshun, apart from describing the demise of Audu as a personal loss, being a member of the same political family, further described the incident as a huge loss to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The late Audu, candidate of the APC in the governorship election held on Saturday in Kogi, reportedly died of heart related ailment after the election, which he was clearly winning, was later declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“It is a personal loss to me; former Governor Audu had a lot of experience that young politicians had continued to tap from for great success.

“Our dear party saw him as one who would make us proud and he did during the election.

“He showed he had a grasp and mastery of the political environment in Kogi, winning 16 local government areas with his running mate, James Faleke.

“This tragedy will hardly be forgotten especially when it came at a time we would have joined him and Faleke in celebrating a worthy success,” Oshun said.

Recalling the process that led to winning a party ticket as well as the cumbersome campaign embarked upon by Audu and Faleke, Oshun said it would have been a worthy fight if the election was declared in favour of the duo “instead of this tragedy that now stares us in the face and of which we cannot reverse.

“My heart-felt condolences go first to the wife and children of the deceased, Faleke, who has also sacrificed time and energy during this period, residents of Kogi State and lovers of democracy.

“I also commiserate with my political family, our National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who put in a huge sacrifice during the electioneering, the party hierarchy and its leadership for this great loss and just wish we could turn back the hand of time.

“But I know that no matter how deep our love for him is, it cannot be compared with the love God has for him.

“Sleep on great friend and party man. I sincerely pray that God should give us the fortitude to bear this loss.”
