Photographer jailed 4 years for illicit drug

courtA 30 year-old photographer, Lucky Guieze and an 18 year-old Abdul Rasheed were on Thursday, sentenced to two years jail term each for unlawful dealing in cannabis sativa popularly called marijuana.

The court presided over by Justice Aneke Chukwujekwu convicted and sentenced the duo after they pleaded guilty to the one charge separately leveled against them by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. J. I. Aernan informed the court during the review of the cases that the convicted photographer was arrested at 3, Kayode Adu street, Ikorodu, Lagos with 200 grams of cannabis sativa, on April 22, while the second accused, Abdul Rasheed, was arrested at Oke eletu area of Ikorodu, on July 12, with 200 grams of the same banned substance.

Aernan further informed the court that the banned substance which the second convict was arrested with was called ‘Scum’ a high potent more than Nigeria’s Indian hemp usually imported from Ghana.

The offence according to the prosecutor is contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap. N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The two accused who were separately arraigned pleaded guilty to the one count charge.

In view of their plea, the prosecutor urged the court to sentence them accordingly.

Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu sentenced the two convicts to two years imprisonment.

The judge ordered that the banned substance arrested with the convicts be destroyed within 30 days if there is no any appeal against the judgment.
